Kladska

Kladska is a picturesque settlement built in the style of Swiss mountain architecture and located in the heart of the Slavkovsky Les Nature Reserve, close to protected peat bog area Taiga. It is the starting point of an educational trail which goes around the beautiful Kladska Lake. The boardwalk is accesible for disabled.

The surroundings of Kladska are perfect for hiking, mountain biking and fishing. Local restaurants offer venison specialities.

Kynzvart Chateau

The Kynzvart Chateau is primarily known as the summer residence of the Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chancellor Duke von Metternich (1773-1859).

The originally Renaissance stronghold was transformed to an Empire style chateau at the end of the 17th century. The whole area includes large park, stables and a brewery.

The chateaux has been recently completely renovated and the beautiful interiors opened to visitors. The truly highlight is the Chancellor’s library, one of the most precious libraries in the Czech Republic. Among other historic artefacts are the cabinet of curiosities and items of famous persons which the Chancellor managed to collect during his long career.

Tepla Monastery

This Premonstrate monastery was founded already in 1193. In the past the cloister accumulated large estates and influenced the course of events in the region, including the foundation of Marianske Lazne.

Tepla Monastery represents a fine example of Romanesque-Gothic architecture. At the turn of 17th and 18th century the cloister underwent significant Baroque transformation.

The most valuable part is the precious library which is the second largest monastery library in the Czech Republic, containing more than 100 000 books including more than 1000 manuscripts.

Chodovar Brewery

The family Brewery Chodovar was built above a medieval cellarage carved from a granite massif. The brewery dates back to 1573, the current buildings were built in 1862. In the former medieval cellarage are located a brewery museum and a stylish restaurant.

Loket Castle

The Loket Castle is the dominant of medieval town Loket situated in a meander of the Ohre River. The city, the castle, the river and the surrounding wooded valley form one of the most picturesque views in the Czech Republic.

The Loket Castle was built already in the 12th century. The castle has been recently renovated and a museum has been established.

Chateau and castle in Becov nad Teplou

Travel distance: 23km

The medieval city Becov dates back to the 13th century. Its dominant is a complex of an originally Gothic castle and a Baroque chateau.

A truly highlight of the Becov Chateau is the unique Reliquary of St. Moor. from the 13th century. The reliquary, after the Crown Jewels the most valuable jewellery work of art in the Czech Republic, has a thrilling history. In the past it changed owners frequently, went missing after the Second World War and was found only in 1985 under the floor of the castle chaple. Today the reliquary is completely renovated.

Karlovy Vary

Travel distance: 43km

The renowned spa lies in the valley of the Tepla River. The natural wealth of Karovy Vary are the famous thermal mineral springs of which the Hot Spring with the temperature of 73°C is the best known.

The city originated in the 14th century and was named after the Czech King and Roman Emperor Charles IV. Every year Karlovy Vary hosts the most prestigious film festival in Central and Eastern Europe.

Insider tip: Try the local train line connecting Marianske Lazne and Karlovy Vary. Although it will take some time, you will be rewarded by beautiful views of the countryside, especially the Tepla River valley.

Frantiskovy Lazne

Travel distance: 36km

Frantiskovy Lazne is the smallest spa of the famous Westbohemian Spa Triangle. Similarly to Karlovy Vary and Marianske Lazne, many mineral springs rise here. The spa was founded in 1793 and to this very day has preserved its spa architecture and beautiful parks.

Not far from Frantiskovy Lazne lies the Soos Natural Reserve with its mud volcanos and peat bogs. An educational trail is opened for visitors.

Historic centre of Cheb

The centre of the medieval city Cheb was declared a heritage site. The Cheb Castle, dating back to the 12th, is one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in Central Europe. Unique is, above all, the valuable Romanesque-Gothic chapel.
